For the past two years, you have joined Laura and me at an event called "Giraffes, Monkeys and Lepperts." This year, I'm excited to announce that the evening has evolved into a benefit for Education Is Freedom. EIF is a non-profit organization that focuses on students who have shown academic promise and leadership ... but need guidance and financial assistance to go to college. The young people of Education is Freedom are incredible and deserve our support. Most of these students – all enrolled in EIF programs at 16 Dallas ISD high schools – are the first in their families to attend college. I believe so strongly in this organization that, each year, I've contributed to EIF $50,000 of my $60,000 annual salary as your mayor. My hope is that you will join me as a sponsor of the new Giraffes, Monkeys and Lepperts celebration.

Set for Saturday, June 26, from 6–9 p.m., Giraffes, Monkeys and Lepperts 2010 will provide everyone a chance to experience the newly opened Giants of the Savanna, a 10-acre habitat with giraffes, elephants, lions, wild dogs and other wildlife species. Festivities throughout the Zoo will include musical entertainment, caricature artists, carousel rides, zoo concessions, face painting, crafts, games and photos. The highlight of the evening will be a very special graduating ceremony honoring EIF's Class of 2010.
